Riviera del Sol, Mijas Costa, Malaga, Spain

Riviera del Sol, Mijas Costa, Malaga,Spain

Riviera del Sol is between Fuengirola and Marbella if you visit Fuengirola with the kids there are many things there to keep them amused the top five are:

See the Animals at the Bioparc.

Fuengirola’s newly redesigned and expanded Bioparc (formerly known as the zoo) has won tremendous acclaim, richly deserved.  It specializes in captive breeding of endangered species, and includes a tropical forest with most of the resident animals living in what appears to be almost total freedom and contentment.  During July and August you can visit at night time and see the nocturnal animals by moonlight.

Have fun at the Aquatico water park.

Park Aquatico Mijas is a fantastic water park just minutes from the town centre, where you can spend a whole day on some pretty exciting water rides such as the Labyrinth Slides with more than a 300 metre descent, full of twists and turns.  There are also well-monitored kids’ areas where smaller ones can try their water wings.  There are live shows at various times of day and plenty of places for refreshment and/or a recliner and parasol if you need a rest, menu of the day is also available. There are buses from Fuengirola city centre to the water park.  There are often discounts for online booking, so check this out when arranging your visit.

Play a round of Adventure Golf.

The Adventure Golf course is designed with fun in mind, as opposed to serious golfing.  It’s more along the lines of crazy golf putting green with plenty of water-themed holes.  A family of four, two adults and two kids under 16, can play (putter and ball hire included) for 20 euros.

Try some Dolphin Spotting.

The 90 minute Aqua Vista catamaran trip offers a high change of spotting dolphins through the vessel’s glass sides.  As there are two hulls there’s a much larger underwater viewing area than on a traditional glass bottomed boat.

Ride the Beast Xtreme Motor Boat.

A ride on the Beast Xtreme motor boat is a white knuckle wet thriller with wave jumping. However for younger kids (height restriction of one metre) or those not seeking an adrenaline high, the trip can be tamed down from wild to mild, to more of a leisurely sea safari.

The top five in Marbella are as follows:

Amazonia Adventura.

A new adventure park called Aventura Amazonia opened near Marbella in a plot of more than 20,000 m2. It is located in Elviria, Avenida Valeriano Rodriguez, N-340 Exit 192. The park offers a total of 73 activities and 20 zip-lines on eight adventure circuits. Aventura Amazonia has the longest zip-line in Andalucia with 240 metres where you can reach a speed of up to 60kph. All of this is located amongst trees in a natural environment. There a varying difficulties amongst the activities so visitors can choose their challenges in agility, speed and balance in a completely safe environment.

Marbella Old Town.

Marbella’s historic and picturesque Old Town, or ‘casco antiguo’ is a hidden gem which most tourists don’t manage to discover. It can be found near the centre of town just up from the Avenida Ricardo Soriano – the main street which runs through Marbella – and opposite La Alameda park.
With its picturesque, ancient architecture and maze of narrow cobbled streets full of boutique shops, funky art galleries, bars and eateries, the Old Town is almost like a separate village within Marbella.

A day at the Beach.

No matter what time of year you visit Marbella, a trip to the beach is a must. The Costa del Sol boasts kilometre after kilometre of sandy beaches, the very best of which can be found a 10 minute drive to the east of Marbella in the Elviria and Hotel Don Carlos areas. All along these beaches are lovely little beach bars, known as ‘chiringuitos’ serving drinks and typical Mediterranean cuisine, right on the sand. The beaches and the sea all along the coast are clean and safe for swimming.

Funny Beach.

Go- Karting for all age groups, super jump!, trampolines, crashing boats, pedalos, banana rides etc.

Selwo Aventure Park.

The park covers more than 100 hectares and is home to free roaming animals from all over the world all in natural habitats that have been recreated.
